Barcelona are reportedly interested in Palmeiras midfielder Matheus Fernandes and have spoken with the Brazilian club about the 21-year-old

Globo Esporte report Barca showed an interest in the youngster back in 2017 when he was at Botafogo and have now followed that up by getting in touch with Palmeiras.

Fernandes was signed by Palmeiras for €3.5 million in 2019 and played his way into the starting XI under caretaker manager Andrey Lopes.

He is contracted to Palmeiras until 2023 and it sounds like he is certainly a player who is in Barcelona’s thoughts for the future.

The Catalan giants aren’t expected to be busy in the January transfer window, although midfield is an area which may see some more movement.

Carles Alena has already departed on loan, while speculation continues that Arturo Vidal could also be on the move to Inter Milan.
